Why We Dance

  • Kerri Giambruno

Internal Relations and Inclusion Committee from East Northport, NY

“I have seen first hand what cancer can do to a family, as two of my closest friends from home lost their father our junior year of high school. I NOVAdance for kids to see another, happy day, and for their families to love and support them through it.”

  • Emmett Greenwood

    PR Director from Wellesley, MA

“Like many people, my why has changed constantly throughout my four years at Villanova. I helped run the dance marathon at my high school, and I knew I wanted to find a similar experience in college. I joined Sidekicks my first year at Villanova and found a community like no other. From there, I was on the Community Relations Team, I chaired the Sidekicks Committee, and I am now the Public Relations Director. NOVAdance has such a positive impact on our campus, and our unique relationship with our B+ Heroes makes it even better. I NOVAdance for all of the B+ Heroes that I will never meet. While we have the good fortune of developing relationships with our current B+ Heroes, so many more are out there who continue to fight childhood cancer. Their courage and positivity is inspiring, and they have changed me for the good. “

  • Hannah Rongo

Orange Team Color Captain from Mooresville, NC

“I NOVAdance so kids can be kids; and parents can focus on things other than how they will afford to put gas in their car or food on the table. I NOVAdance so no one has to fight childhood cancer alone. “

  • Annie Carr

SPE Team from New Orleans, LA

“I NOVAdance for the children with illnesses and their families that need support. On the day of this year, I got to meet so many B+ heroes and their families, and I was just in awe. The children were so upbeat and excited to be included. One of my favorite parts was watching the heroes and their siblings play basketball and cornhole with the sidekicks and MOCO teams. It is so clear that though they are going through so much with treatments, they are still positive and ready to have fun. I find that so admirable and the heroes are truly some of the strongest people I have met. “

“To be there for and support families during the most difficult time of their lives”

  • Madison Knoblock

Morale Committee Chair from Las Vegas, NV

“I NOVAdance because every kid deserves to be a kid. Every child and family battling a cancer diagnosis deserves to feel supported and important. I NOVAdance to continue to meet amazing children and their families and make connections that leave everlasting impacts and memories. I NOVAdance to continue to find a cure for pediatric cancer because every child deserves the opportunity to live life to the fullest and grow up to follow their dreams.”

  • Elsa Fernandez

Awareness Committee Co-Chair from Downers Grove, IL

“I NOVAdance because it is so amazing knowing that I can positively impact the lives of others. I get to give not only the financial support to the families of out B+ heroes, but also love, support, and hope! Early in my freshman year at Villanova, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was hard to deal with but, luckily she is now in recovery. It was definitely a hard time for my family, but the love and support of our friends and family really helped us get through it. I want to be that support for the B+ heroes, their families and all the families battling cancer. My family was lucky to have such a strong support system, and I think that is something that everyone should have in their lives. I am interested in being a member of the NOVAdance 2023 Committee so that I can join forces and spread awareness with like-minded others. During my time as a Sidekick in 2020-2021 and as the IRC Co-Chair in 2021-2022, I saw first-hand that NOVAdance provides a strong support system for all of those battling cancer. I would absolutely love to continue being a part of that and continue to make a difference in the lives of our B+ Heroes and their families.”

  • Reynolds Shenk

Media Productions Chair from Woodside, CA

“I NOVAdance because a strong, positive childhood is the greatest foundation any person can have in life. It goes without saying that all families and children should be able to have a happy childhood and I want to do what I can to help others in that way.”

  • Ryenn Engles

Graphics Team Co-Chair from Morristown, NJ

“I NOVAdance for my mom. My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on December 23, 2021. Although she is currently cancer free (yes!!!!), she has to take a medication for 5 years to help prevent the breast cancer from returning. This medication makes her very tired, and it severely impacts her joints. She has had to cut back on all of the things that she enjoys doing in order to rest her body and be able to minimize her pain. Seeing my mom go through this makes me want to fight even harder for our B+ Heroes because a lot of adult medications are given to pediatric cancer patients. No child should have to take these strong medications and suffer the pain and swelling that my mom does. No child should have to stay home from school or birthday parties because the medication they are taken is wearing them down. Thus, I NOVAdance for better pediatric cancer research because our B+ Heroes deserve it.”
